The Deceitfulness of LUST

Psalms 78:15-22,24-37,39-40

[15]He clave the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths.

[16]He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.

[17]And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most High in the wilderness.

[18]And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust.

[19]Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?

[20]Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?

[21]Therefore the LORD heard this, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel;

[22]Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation:

[24]And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven.

[25]Man did eat angels' food: he sent them meat to the full.

[26]He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the south wind.

[27]He rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea:

[28]And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations.

[29]So they did eat, and were well filled: for he gave them their own desire;

[30]They were not estranged from their lust. But while their meat was yet in their mouths,

[31]The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel.

[32]For all this they sinned still, and believed not for his wondrous works.

[33]Therefore their days did he consume in vanity, and their years in trouble.

[34]When he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned and enquired early after God.

[35]And they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer.

[36]Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues.

[37]For their heart was not right with him, neither were they stedfast in his covenant.

[39]For he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.

[40]How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert!

Psalms 81:8-16

[8]Hear, O my people, and I will testify unto thee: O Israel, if thou wilt hearken unto me;

[9]There shall no strange god be in thee; neither shalt thou worship any strange god.

[10]I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.

[11]But my people would not hearken to my voice; and Israel would none of me.

[12]So I gave them up unto their own hearts' lust: and they walked in their own counsels.

[13]Oh that my people had hearkened unto me, and Israel had walked in my ways!

[14]I should soon have subdued their enemies, and turned my hand against their adversaries.

[15]The haters of the LORD should have submitted themselves unto him: but their time should have endured for ever.

[16]He should have fed them also with the finest of the wheat: and with honey out of the rock should I have satisfied thee.

Proverbs 6:21-32

[21]Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.

[22]When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.

[23]For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

[24]To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.

[25]Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.

[26]For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life.

[27]Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?

[28]Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?

[29]So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.

[30]Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;

[31]But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.

[32]But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.

Matthew 5:27-30

[27]Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:

[28]But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

[29]And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

[30]And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

Mark 4:18-19

[18]And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word,

[19]And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.

John 8:41-47

[41]Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.

[42]Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.

[43]Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.

[44]Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

[45]And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.

[46]Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?

[47]He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

Romans 1:20-32

[20]For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

[21]Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

[22]Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

[23]And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

[24]Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:

[25]Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

[26]For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

[27]And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

[28]And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

[29]Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

[30]Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

[31]Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

[32]Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

Romans 6:10-13

[10]For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.

[11]Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

[12]Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.

[13]Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

Romans 7:7

[7]What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.

Romans 13:12-14

[12]The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

[13]Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.

[14]But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

Galatians 5:16-25

[16]This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

[17]For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

[18]But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

[19]Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

[20]Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

[21]Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

[22]But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

[23]Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

[24]And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

[25]If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Ephesians 2:1-6

[1]And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;

[2]Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

[3]Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

[4]But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,

[5]Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

[6]And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

Ephesians 4:22-24

[22]That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;

[23]And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;

[24]And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

2 Timothy 2:22-23

[22]Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

[23]But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.

2 Timothy 4:2-4

[2]Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

[3]For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

[4]And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

Titus 2:11-15

[11]For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,

[12]Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

[13]Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

[14]Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

[15]These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.

Titus 3:3-6

[3]For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

[4]But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,

[5]Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

[6]Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;

James 1:12-16

[12]Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

[13]Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

[14]But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

[15]Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

[16]Do not err, my beloved brethren.

James 4:1-10

[1]From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?

[2]Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

[3]Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

[4]Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

[5]Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?

[6]But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

[7]Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

[8]Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

[9]Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

[10]Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

1 Peter 2:11

[11]Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

1 Peter 4:1-2

[1]Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;

[2]That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.

2 Peter 1:4

[4]Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

1 John 2:15-17

[15]Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

[16]For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

[17]And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

Jude 1:14-21

[14]And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,

[15]To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.

[16]These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men's persons in admiration because of advantage.

[17]But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;

[18]How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.

[19]These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.

[20]But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

[21]Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
